In 1866, A. Kiewit opened his first office in Rotterdam specialising in marine losses. In the 1990s, A. Kiewit was acquired by Thomas Howell, a UK company, which ultimately became Crawford & Company — a full-service loss adjusting company with five offices in the Netherlands and part of the worldwide Crawford organisation.
