Updates

Nov 25, 2024

Over the weekend, the widespread impact of Storm Boris brought peak windspeeds of 92 mph, with as much as 64.4 mm (2.53 in) falling in places. Regrettably, five people sadly lost their lives and weather warnings and travel restrictions still remain in place.

While 227 flood alerts were posted over the weekend, with North Wales being particularly hard hit, some 180 of these remain in force today. Three of these – two in Wales and one in England – are still graded as “severe”. Nearly 40 schools around the UK remain closed and National Highways as well as several rail operators are still advising against travel in areas from which floodwaters have yet to subside and where roads and rail tracks are still blocked by flood debris or fallen trees.

The UK Met Office advises that a yellow weather warning for strong winds is also still in place, with likely gusts of 50-60 mph and potentially as high as 70 mph on western coasts and on high, exposed bridges.

With so much rainfall in the weeks before Storm Bert, the ground was already wet and the water table still high. With an upturn in temperature, we’re seeing melted snow and rainwater runoff still coming down from higher ground, feeding into rivers and fields. This is slowing attempts to properly assess what needs to be done to help the many people who are facing the prospect of a lengthy drying-out process in the run-up to Christmas.

You can be sure that Crawford will be there with the right team, the right technology, and the right processes to help restore lives, businesses and communities.

We will provide more updates as they become available.
